TITLE:  Speech & Language Pathologist

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); Long-Term Substitute (anticipated early December through late January); salary range $150.00-$283.18/day

LOCATION:  Marathon Elementary School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

The Speech and Language Pathologist provides therapy to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.

 

DUTIES:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments, and then assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community, as appropriate;
  2. Provides a therapeutic program and develops specific performance objectives to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children, as prescribed by the Evaluation Team, and collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities;
  3. Maintains thorough, ongoing records of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as individual students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.  Maintains a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services;
  4. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement, and provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate;
  5. Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification;
  6. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed;
  7. Other duties, as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered qualified for the position of Speech & Language Pathologist, candidates must have/be:

  1. Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Speech, Language, & Hearing Disorders by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, licensed as Speech-Language Pathologist by the Commonwealth of MA Division of Professional Licensure (Board of Speech-Language Path Audiology), and certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association;
  2. Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
  4. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and therapy strategies;
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
