TITLE:  School Crossing Guard 

TYPE OF POSITION: Part-time (.1875; ~1.5 hours/day), school year position (anticipated immediate start); salary commensurate with experience (current range $20.00-$30.00/hour)

LOCATION:  District, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

NOTE: This position is a split shift, approximately 8:30-9:15 AM and 3:00-3:45 PM daily.

 

The School Crossing Guard will provide for the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection.  The incumbent works one morning shift and one afternoon shift Monday through Friday, during the public school year.  Hours will vary on early release and early dismissal days.  The School Crossing Guard reports to the Director of Finance & Operations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  2. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public;
  3. Demonstrated commitment to safety;
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Finance & Operations, and/or the Superintendent may find appropriate.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Assists students, and provides safe access to and from school;
  2. Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors to ensure understanding and the potential consequences of violation;
  3. Intervenes in potential emergency situations to avoid/minimize injury to involved parties;
  4. Reports observations and/or incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules) for follow-up by appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  5. Other duties, as assigned.
