TITLE:  Title I Middle School Literacy Tutor

TYPE OF POSITION: Part-time (.875 - 32.5 hours/week), anticipated immediate start; salary commensurate with experience (range $25.00-$30.00/hour), subject to the terms and conditions of the grant funding the position

LOCATION:  Middle School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

The Title I Middle School Literacy Tutor works under the direction of the Director of English Language Arts and the Building Principal to provide tutoring in reading and writing for students in grades 6-8. The tutor supports each student in the acquisition of basic reading and writing skills, and motivates students to apply their reading and writing skills in all subject areas.  The Middle School Literacy Tutor reports to the Director of English Language Arts and the Building Principal.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Licensed, or eligible for licensure, in English 5-12, Elementary Education 1-6, or Reading by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
  2. Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
  4. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Provides tutoring throughout the school day per the schedule designed by the Principal and Director of English Language Arts;
  2. Continuously monitors students’ understanding of the tutoring content and adjusts instruction, guided by the Director of English Language Arts and the Building Principal;
  3. Utilizes appropriate technology to aid students in the acquisition of knowledge and skills, and develop of understanding;
  4. Creates reports of progress for each student;
  5. Other duties, as assigned.
